Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee reveals he had hand surgery for carpel tunnel: 'I have my life and my money back'

Tommy Lee, 61, revealed that he underwent hand surgery for carpel tunnel and Dupuytren's contracture in his hand.

The Mötley Crüe drummer revealed the news in a very straightforward, graphic Instagram post that showed his hand cut wide open before and after the procedure, as well as during the surgery.

“Well kids, it’s time for show and tell… I hope this doesn’t ruin your lunch. Just three weeks ago I had hand surgery by @drcohenhandsurgeon,” he captioned the post.

“He addressed two crippling issues for me as a drummer, keyboard player and pretty much everything to do with my right hand. “And yesterday was so monumental for me that it brought tears to my eyes…”

He continued, “I have my life and my money-making back. “And for you drummers and musicians out there, I can say that it is possible to fix it!”

“And in the last clip I'm able to twirl my sticks again… I haven't been able to do that for a few years due to the Dupytrens contracture and carpal tunnel issues which are now gone!”

“@drcohenhandsurgeon and the staff there I am forever grateful!!!!” he concluded the long post.

Dupuytren's contracture is a thickening of the tissue in the palm of the hand that can cause the finger to curl inward. In Tommy's case, he was unable to play the drums or perform his iconic drumstick rolls.

At the end of his post, the rocker shared a short video clip of himself twirling his drumsticks.

The Kickstart My Heart drummer and his surgeon explained that his fingers are now no longer bent and he can successfully “do the peg”.

“This is crazy,” Lee said in the video clip. “Dude, that’s a beautiful thing.”

His surgeon commented on the post: “You worked hard and followed all the instructions with great care!” You crush it and keep getting better.

“3 weeks is so early for major hand surgery!! I'm looking forward to watching this hand do what it does best at high volume!'

Several of his famous friends commented on the post featuring the band Deadmau 5 and wrote: “All this nonsense just so you can spin a stick. 'Clean!'

Former Guns 'n Roses and Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum wrote: “Honestly, Dr. Cohen also operated on my hand and am grateful that everything is new and stronger after I broke my finger.”

His ex-wife Heather Locklear commented, “Okay I'm happy for you both but puke,” referring to the photos of the drastic surgery.

His now-wife Brittany Furlan simply wrote, “yaaaayyyyy,” followed by four black heart emojis.

Mötley Crüe's next show is scheduled for May 24 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The band is also performing at several music festivals this summer, including Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida and Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
