The Spanish energy company Iberdrola announced this Monday the sale of 13 power plants to the Mexican government for an amount of 6.2 billion dollars. The deal, which has been planned for months, comes after the approval of the Mexican antitrust authority, which imposed several conditions on the completion of the transaction on the CEO of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The purchase of the systems and a wind farm cost the government 200 million more than originally estimated.
The company announced the sale in a statement sent to the National Securities Market Commission of Spain and signed by the Secretary General and the Board of Directors of Iberdrola. “Once the approval of the Federal Economic Competition Commission (Cofece) of Mexico is received and the remaining conditions precedent agreed between the parties are met, the sale will be completed,” the energy company said. The transaction includes 55% of Iberdrola's business in Mexico. The undersecretary of the Mexican Ministry of Finance, Gabriel Yorio, confirmed to this newspaper that the operation had been completed.
