Jake Guentzel is pushing at the goal

The next few weeks are obviously going to be exciting for Pittsburgh as the Penguins have important decisions to make before the trade deadline.

About two weeks before the fateful date of March 8, forward Jake Guentzel is catching the attention of many teams hoping for a long run into the playoffs.

In this regard, Sportsnet informant Elliotte Friedman said on air Saturday that the Vegas Golden Knights, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers were among those interested in the services of the 29-year-old athlete.

As a reminder, the Pennsylvania team is dealing with the more than week-long absence of Guentzel, who suffered an upper-body injury on February 14th. The club then announced a four-week absence for the winger.

Before the injury, the 77th pick in the 2013 draft had 22 goals and 30 assists for 52 points in 50 games this year. He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

Interesting goalkeepers

However, Friedman added that in addition to Guentzel, other Penguins players are also on the radar of other organizations.

“I think other players in the Penguins organization are starting to catch the attention of other teams,” he said. Of course, we're not talking about the big names in the team here. But I think one position that people are questioning and that the Penguins will consider is goaltender.

Given the rise of young goaltender Joel Blomqvist with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the Penguins' American League affiliate, general manager Kyle Dubas may be tempted to trade one of the big club's two goalies.

Heading into Sunday's matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers, the Penguins were nine points out of a spot that would give them entry into spring ball.
