USA: Joe Biden falls trying to get off his bike but claims ‘healthy’ (video)

US President Joe Biden fell harmlessly in Delaware this Saturday, June 18, while trying to get off his bike.

The images went viral on social media. US President Joe Biden, 79, fell in Delaware this Saturday morning while trying to get off his stationary bike. While walking in Rehoboth Beach, a small coastal town where he regularly spends weekends at his seaside villa, the head of state fell at around 9:40 a.m., according to a journalist from the presidential pool.

Joe Biden wanted to stop to speak to passers-by and reporters waiting for him but said he was having trouble releasing his toe-clip-equipped foot from the pedal. According to a video by the journalist, he fell sideways while his bike was stationary. He was immediately surrounded by his security forces, but quickly got to his feet. When asked about his condition, he replied, “I’m fine.”

The President wore shorts, blue sneakers, a bike helmet and gloves. According to the journalist, there were no visible signs of the fall, such as scratches. Then he chatted briefly with passers-by, then with journalists, got back on his bike and drove off about 5 minutes later.

No medical assistance required

“As the President said, his foot got stuck in the pedal getting off his bike and he’s fine,” a White House official said. “No medical attention is required,” the official added. “The President looks forward to spending the rest of the day with his family.”

He was joined on his walk by his wife, Jill Biden, who did not witness the fall after continuing on her way. The health of all American presidents is under close scrutiny, but particularly that of Joe Biden, the longest-serving American president.
