Rome, June 18, 2022 – This is Moscow’s number 2 goal war in Ukraine, now in its 115th day. The only enemy to be intercepted is her husband Volodymir Zelenskyy. Speak in a long interview with the Guardian, Olena Selenska. And it is not surprising that the Russians targeted it. “If you see their crimes, maybe they really are capable of anything,” he says. “I feel like I’m in a parallel reality,” he says. “Like I’m dreaming or playing a computer game and have to pass certain levels to be home”.
He did not believe that the invasion could really come about as it did on February 24th. “Honest? no I couldn’t believe this was going to happen. I didn’t even have a passport ready,” he explains. But on this terrible day he had to keep calm. “I kept it all together and had this weird smile on my face all day trying not to panic with the kids,” she says.
“We were just following safety orders, we went where we were told,” he added. After receiving brief instructions from her husband, she announced that she was left alone and went to check on their two children, nine-year-old Kyrylo and 17-year-old Oleksandra. They are already awake and dressed and seem to understand what is going on, he explains to the British tabloid again. She was only able to briefly see her husband again on the evening of February 24, at a location the First Lady prefers to keep secret. Zelenska was transferred there in those first hectic days. And there she feared she would never see her husband again.
Then Zelenska returned to Kyiv (in recent days she has even been spotted in Forte dei Marmi), but “she is far from sure that the president’s family is no longer a target of the Russians. Away after so many weeks, with Zelensky,” we hugged, said goodbye, and wondered how we were doing. The children were here and clung to him for some time. Now we can see each other and they can physically touch their father, which makes things a little easier.
In recent weeks, Zelenska has spoken frequently with some of her contacts from the first phase of the presidency, as well as with other first ladies. She made her first public appearance ten weeks into the war to meet Jill Biden, and the couple attended a school in far western Ukraine: “It was brave of her to come here. She was extremely insightful and very interested in the stories people had to tell.” Then he listened Bridget Macron On the phone she offered to help rebuild a school. A video call with the Queen Mathilde of Belgium, who is also a professor of psychology and has given some advice on rehabilitation programs. “Every Ukrainian is now under enormous mental stress,” emphasized Zelenska.
“Half of our population lives apart from their families. Of course, most of us have never lived in these conditions.” For now, the goal is to defeat the Russians, but when the war is over, a great program is needed to heal the nation. “Nobody needs a country that won, that fought for its territory, but populated by people who cannot live, function or raise their children normally. Great dangers lie ahead.”
War
Meanwhile, the conflict continues. And as Kyiv takes steps toward the European Union, Russian bombing raids continue unabated. After yesterday’s speech by Putin in St. Petersburg, in which the Russian President affirmed that “the goals will be achieved,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova is setting the course today. “The Ukraine we knew within these borders no longer exists. And she won’t be either. That’s obvious. Those borders no longer exist,” he said in an interview with Sky News Arabia, quoted by agensia Ria Novosti.
The US Veteran
There is good news too. The American veteran, who is missing in Ukraine where he intended to train the Kiev military on US weapons, is alive. His family is known, citing a video posted online. Alexander Drueke has been missing for days. It was near Kharkiv. In the video, Alexander turns to his mother to tell her he’ll be coming home “as soon as possible.” The footage was released after Russian broadcaster RT revealed that Drueke had surrendered to Russian forces along with another American, former Marine Andy Tai Huynh.
