Queen Elizabeth of England for the first time since her coronation not attended any of the 5 days of Royal Ascotthe famous horse race where nobles and celebrities compete for the flashiest outfits, especially hats.
This was confirmed by Ascot racecourse managers, quoted by Sky News, who indicated that the Sovereign continued to have “mobility issues” which would not have allowed her to take part.
Elizabeth II attended Royal Ascot for the first time in 1946 and since ascending the throne 70 years ago she has always competed in at least one day of racing (she is a great horse lover; the members of her stable – over 10 this year – compete regularly and have racked up some great victories over the years at Ascot ), with the exception of 2020 when the Covid pandemic resulted in races being held behind closed doors.
The royal house was represented by Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, paraded as usual around the track in a carriage before the start of last Tuesday’s races. Ascot is close to Windsor Castle, one of the sovereign’s residences.
