Children are served Bodensiegel instead of milk

Twelve children were served Tuesday’s lunch at a day camp in Alaska and ate soil sealant instead of milk.

The Juneau School District Board of Education said in a statement on its website that a chain of events led to the error, which sickened 12 children and two adults.

The 14 people are said to have taken up to 90 ml of Seal 341 floor sealant.

Those who consumed the product suffered from headaches, nausea, and burning sensations in the mouth and throat.

However, her life is not in danger.

According to the school board’s preliminary investigation, a pallet of sealant was mistakenly shipped to a JSD food warehouse along with four pallets of long-life milk in the spring of 2021.

This camp is usually reserved for groceries only.

The seals were only used this week when the grocery service that provides lunches for young campers ran out of milk.

The food service NMS sent an employee to the warehouse to pick something up.

On the morning of June 14, three boxes of floor sealer were recovered from the warehouse, according to the school board.

One was delivered to the day camp food manager at Sitʼ Eeti Shaanáx̱ Glacier Valley Elementary School, where sealant was served instead of milk.

The other two boxes were sent to other schools but not opened.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
