Maxim Chmerkovsky says he is “safe” after fleeing Ukraine: “I felt wrong when I left”

Dancing with the Stars graduate Maxim Chmerkovsky briefed his fans on his journey from Ukraine as the Russian invasion continued.

Chmerkowski arrived in Warsaw, Poland on Tuesday, according to numerous Instagram posts. The professional dancer went live on his social media account to discuss the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia and the guilt he feels leaving the country.

“I felt wrong to leave,” Cmerkowski said live.

He explained the conditions on the train, saying it was full of people, including women and children. Chmerkowski claims he was unable to get off the train at any stop while heading to Warsaw.

“I still feel guilty about being on the train,” he added.

Chmerkovsky also revealed that some of his friends are on the front lines in the fight against the Russian invasion.

“I don’t know if they’re dead,” he admitted.

The choreographer also encouraged Russian citizens to protest the attack on Ukraine.

Chmerkovsky revealed that he had reached Warsaw, Poland earlier on Tuesday, while Russia continued to invade Ukraine.

“Putin is over,” he said. “Someone has to finish it because it’s over.”

“So the Russians are doing your thing,” Chmerkovsky added. “Because it will take 30 years for Russia not to be associated with evil.

Chmerkovsky began publishing about his time in Ukraine on Thursday, when Russia launched an attack the country called a “special military operation.” The DWTS alumnus was in the country while filming for the Ukrainian version of Dancing with the Stars.

His wife and Dancing with the Stars professional, Peta Murgatroyd, had earlier asked her followers on social media to pray for Chmerkovsky’s safe return from Ukraine.

Chmerkovsky said he would continue to share videos and images of the destruction of civilian areas in Ukraine on social media to shed light on what is actually happening in the country.

Russian forces escalated attacks on crowded urban areas on Tuesday, bombing the central square of Ukraine’s second-largest city and Kiev’s main TV tower in what the country’s president called a screaming campaign of terror.
