Liz Cheney criticizes Kevin McCarthy for not rejecting the “pro-Putin, anti-Semitic, white nationalist” wing of the Republican Party after promising to support only HER main opponent in 2022.
- Rep. Liz Cheney’s spokesman criticized GOP leader Kevin McCarthy for supporting Cheney’s archrival over right-wingers.
- “The leader will honorably reject, not defend, pro-Putin, anti-Semitic, white nationalist party members,” the spokesman said Thursday.
- Cheney shared the statement and linked it to a CNN article that quoted McCarthy saying that his support of Cheney’s rival was “a special case.”
- The article notes that McCarthy backed only one main contender ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, Cheney’s challenger, the up-and-coming Harriet Hageman.
- McCarthy does not support any of its controversial members’ rivals, including Reps Marjorie Taylor Green and Paul Gosar.
- Greene has been criticized for comments she has made about Ukraine, about anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, and spoke at a white nationalist gathering.
- McCarthy told CNN he also continues to support the other nine GOP lawmakers who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump a second time.
Republican Representative Liz Cheney criticized House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy for backing Cheney’s archrival instead of denouncing right-wing members of his party.
“A leader with honor will reject — not defend — pro-Putin, anti-Semitic, white nationalist party members instead of fighting Liz Cheney for telling the truth,” spokesman Jeremy Adler said Thursday.
Cheney shared Adler’s statement in a tweet and linked it to a CNN story in which she appeared, in which he called McCarthy’s support for Harriet Hageman, Cheney’s Trump-backed GOP rival, “a special case.”
Republican Representative Liz Cheney criticized House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy for supporting Cheney’s archrival instead of denouncing right-wing members of his party.
Cheney shared Adler’s statement on Twitter and linked it to a CNN story in which he appeared, in which he called McCarthy’s support for Harriet Hageman, Cheney’s Trump-backed GOP rival, “a special case.”
The article notes that McCarthy supported only one main contender ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, Cheney, and not someone who tried to remove controversial Republican members, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green or Paul Gosar.
Both Green and Gosar, who appeared virtually, spoke at a white nationalist conference in February. Greene later said she did not know the organizer’s backstory.
McCarthy repeatedly had to denounce Greene for spreading anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.
This week, Green also continued to gain attention by criticizing the Ukrainian forces, saying they are filled with “Nazis” and will not be able to win a war against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces.
She also said that Ukraine “poked the bear” of Russia, which caused the country to be invaded.
Putin insisted that Russia invaded Ukraine to “denazify” the country and tried to characterize Ukrainians as aggressors.
McCarthy (pictured) singled out Cheney as the only MP in his assembly he would not support re-election. She is one of two Republicans to serve on the January 6 House Select Committee, along with fellow GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who is resigning.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (pictured) has been criticized for comments she has made about Ukraine, has been accused of promoting anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, and recently spoke at a white nationalist gathering in what she says was a mistake.
Green was seen not applauding when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed Congress last week.
In addition, Republican Madison Cawthorne called Zelensky a “thug”, which McCarthy criticized and called “wrong”.
McCarthy told CNN he remains behind nine other Republican lawmakers who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump a second time along with Cheney.
However, Cheney drew his ire for her participation in the January 6 Democratic-led election committee.
Another Republican member on the committee, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, has already announced his resignation after this year.
However, Cheney is trying to keep her seat in the House of Representatives and hopes her state’s law allowing voters with a political party on Election Day will force Democrats and independents to come to her aid.
