Valle del Cauca artist Julián Castillo is once again capturing the world’s attention. This time he reached an abandoned water tank located under the star of the Siloé district on the hill of Cali. to carry out several works with blood donated by residents of the sector.
Five volunteers contributed about 250 milliliters of living tissue to allow this Roldanillo-born artist, who already holds a Guinness record for the largest pencil painting, to paint Puerto Rican singer Residente for Castillo, rapper René Perez Joglar for about five hours “It’s a very big symbol that makes people think with its messages.”
Castillo stated that he prefers blood to draw attention through culture and art, rather than spilling in the streets because of confrontation, war, or protests.
It should be explained that the blood is diluted in a dye so that it does not oxidize and thus remain on the wall.Next to the mural depicting the Puerto Rican singer’s face, the artist painted a dove of peace, also in human blood.Social leader John Freddy Guevara, who invited Castillo to carry out his work, said: “We want to send out a clear message that we do not want any more blood to be in Colombia because of wars and all the conflicts that the country has experienced is shed. but that this time we shed more blood for art and culture.”
