The Miami Dolphins were the latest team to shake the AFC to its core, hitting a blockbuster with the Kansas City Chiefs and landing on Tyreke Hill. This trade is only about 24 hours away and it looks like another trade could be on the horizon. Several teams showed interest in veteran Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. Jackson reports that the Philadelphia Eagles are among those interested clubs.
Jackson notes that it’s not yet clear what the Dolphins plan to do with Parker. As things stand with the current roster, the 29-year-old should challenge for 3rd place on the wide receiver depth chart with free agent signing Cedric Wilson. Of course, Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the 2021 first-round pick, are the top two picks for the position.
If the team decides to waive Parker, they could try to bring back some draft capital to restock after delivering five different picks, including the 2022 first round, for Hill.
Parker is under contract for the 2023 season with relatively small earnings, which are around $9 million a year. He is also due to receive a base salary of approximately $5.7 million in 2022 and 2023.
The Louisville product had spent his entire career in Miami up to this point after being selected 14th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. Despite having a 1,200 yard season on his record, he doesn’t actually match that tally in the first round, averaging about 675 yards per season. However, he is a productive player who should give a boost to a team that needs help catching a pass.
As far as possible harassment from the Eagles, the team does have DeVonta Smith drafted in the 2021 first round, but not much after that, with Jalen Reygor, Zach Pascal and Kes Watkins leading the rest of the division, so Parker had would make some sense in Philadelphia.
