The June window of the USMNT will also feature two friendlies against opponents to be named later. The entire US team is expected to participate in these four games to better support the preparations for the World Cup in Qatar.

Mexico’s Nations League opponents are Jamaica and Suriname, while Canada meet Honduras and CuraƧao. Both Mexico and Canada will join the USMNT in Qatar as three confirmed CONCACAF World Cup representatives.

A report by ESPN Uruguay states that Uruguay could be earmarked for both USA and Mexico as one of those friendly opponents in June.

The CONCACAF Nations League consists of 41 squads from North, Central America and the Caribbean, divided into three leagues – A, B and C – with promotion and relegation between the different tiers. The four groups of League A consist of:

Group A: Mexico, Jamaica, Suriname
Group B: Costa Rica, Panama, Martinique
Group C: Canada, Honduras, Curacao
Group D: United States, El Salvador, Grenada

Two more group matches will take place in March 2023. The four group winners advance to the semifinals, which will be held in June 2023. Dates and venues for all Nations League games are yet to be determined.

The USA won the inaugural edition of the CNL last June with a vibrant 3-2 overtime win over Mexico in the final in Denver.

In the duel with El Salvador, the USA meets Hugo Perez, a former USA international and current coach of the Cuscatlecos. USA played two thrilling games during qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, drawing 0-0 in San Salvador and then winning the second leg 1-0 with a goal from Antonee Robinson.

USA hold an all-time record of 3-0-0 against Grenada but have not met the Spice Boys since a 4-0 win in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Mexico’s opponents – Jamaica and Suriname – were promoted from League B after finishing first in their respective groups.

The group stage of the CONCACAF Nations League also serves as a qualifier for the Gold Cup 2023. Group winners and runners-up in League A, along with group winners in League B, will automatically receive a place in the next edition of the tournament. Third-place finishers in League A, runners-up in League B and group winners in League C qualify for a Gold Cup preliminary round.
