King Charles III addresses the British Parliament for the first time

King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla received condolences from the Speakers of both Houses at Parliament in London on Monday morning, September 12. Charles III Speaking for the first time as Sovereign and Head of State before the British Parliament, he said he felt “the weight of history” and wanted to bid farewell to the “example” set by his mother Elizabeth II at the start of a week of sovereign.

“As I stand before you today, I cannot help but feel the weight of the history that surrounds us and reminds us of the vital parliamentary traditions that Members of both houses devote themselves to with such personal dedication for the good of all of us.” the Prime Minister said the 73-year-old King in a short speech, followed by the British anthem.

He said his mother was “an example of dedication that, with God’s help and your guidance, I will faithfully follow.”

Funeral service for the royal family

King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla were to fly alongside Edinburgh and travel first to the Royal Palace of Holyrood where the Queen’s body is located. A procession will join Saint-Gilles Cathedral, which will be joined by the King and Queen consort walking behind the hearse. The coffin will arrive there in the early afternoon for a religious ceremony scheduled for 4pm local time (5pm Paris time), followed by a private wake for the royal family in the evening.

Earlier, the king met Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and attended a condolence session at the Scottish Parliament. From the end of the afternoon, the public can pray in front of the coffin, which will rest in the cathedral until the next day.
