Ukrainian MP Lesya Vasilenko personally tweeted a video of the legislature’s meeting on Thursday as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s siege continues.
“The parliament of #Ukraine is sitting in person today to vote on the basic laws on defense and security. A fast and tense session. We sing the national anthem in unity as we begin our session in the most purposeful building in all of Ukraine. #LoveUkraine “, tweeted MP Lesya Vasilenko.
In May 2020, two months after the coronavirus pandemic, Pelosi changed the House’s rules to allow members to use proxy voting.
During the voting, another member may come to the microphone and announce how his or her colleagues intend to vote.
Both Democrats and Republicans have used proxy voting in the nearly two years since the rules changed.
But McCarthy was on a crusade to see him.
The best Republican in the House of Representatives has filed a proxy vote several times, with the Supreme Court finally saying in late January that judges would not take up the challenge.
The decision leaves intact the decision of the lower court from July 2021, allowing the vote of a proxy to be in force.
A three-judge panel of the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia said the courts have no jurisdiction under the rules of Congress – as they are a separate branch of government.
“Members of Congress must appear to work on behalf of their constituents, just as they have done since the founding of our nation,” McCarthy’s spokesman Mark Bednar said after the Supreme Court ruling.
“We cannot rely on a separate branch of government to get Congress to do its job, as required by the Constitution, and if Republicans win back the majority, proxy voting will be eliminated on the first day,” Bednar added.
As Washington, D.C., dropped its mandates for vaccinations and masks, Pelosi said voting for a proxy would continue at least until the end of the month.
