US election campaign: Republicans leave refugees in front of Harris’ home

As early as the spring, the Republican governors of Texas and Arizona, Greg Abbott and Doug Ducey, began transporting migrants from the border areas to the democratically governed cities of Washington, New York and Chicago in protest at the course taken by the Biden administration. More than 9,000 migrants reportedly arrived in Washington alone. The Democratic mayor of the US capital, Muriel Bowser, recently declared a state of emergency due to the arrival of migrant buses to gain support from the federal government.

Volunteers took care of immigrants

DeSantis is considered a possible Republican presidential candidate and is currently the party’s biggest internal contender for former President Donald Trump, which has fueled speculation for weeks that he could run for a second term in 2024. DeSantis is also campaigning for another term as governor, like Greg Abbott in Texas. Both will run for re-election in November.

Beds, meals and medical care were immediately provided for the migrants on Martha’s Vineyard. Migrants transported to Washington were housed and cared for at a local church. According to volunteers, about 70 to 80 percent of migrants are from Venezuela, with the rest from Colombia, Cuba, Guyana, Nicaragua and Panama.
