- Vice President Kamala Harris ignored a question Friday morning about migrants who were dropped off outside her residence at the Naval Observatory the previous day
- Harris received South African President Cyril Ramaphosa for breakfast before holding a bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden at the White House
- “What was your reaction to the buses arriving yesterday?” asked a reporter
- Later, her husband’s second gentleman, Doug Emhoff, was asked about the busload of migrants being brought to DC by order of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott
- “I found it shameful. These are people. These are people. They needed to be treated with dignity and respect, and they weren’t,” Emhoff said

Harris received South African President Cyril Ramaphosa for breakfast before holding a bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden at the White House.
“What was your reaction to the buses arriving yesterday?” asked a reporter.
Harris and Ramaphosa turned and walked into the residence without answering any questions.

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott dispatched two busloads of migrants to Harris’s doorstep on Thursday after the vice president claimed the border was “safe.”
“VP Harris claims our border is ‘safe’ and denies the crisis,” Abbott tweeted, claiming responsibility for the move. “We’re sending migrants into their backyard to ask the Biden administration to do its job and secure the border.”
She declined to answer a similar question about the migrants after making comments at the White House on Thursday.
On Friday, Harris’ husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, visited a DC vaccination clinic for a COVID booster.
While there, he was asked by a reporter if he had responded to the migrants being dropped off in front of his DC home.
“Yes, I have a reaction,” he said. “I found it shameful. These are people. These are people. They needed to be treated with dignity and respect, and they weren’t.”
“And we have so-called leaders in this country who don’t focus on what’s good for the public in their own states, but use people as pawns in a political stunt,” Emhoff continued. “I find it shameful,” he said again.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also orchestrated a plan to send nearly 50 migrants to the tony liberal enclave of Martha’s Vineyard on Thursday.
At Friday’s White House briefing, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre expressed anger that DeSantis and Abbott would engage in these political stunts — but said she had no calls to read when asked if the administration was changing the Republican governors asked to stop it.
“Yesterday, two Republican governors reportedly lured 100 asylum seekers, including children, onto planes and buses with false premises, then left them thousands of miles away at the side of a busy road with nothing but Ziploc bags with their belongings in the hand,” said Jean-Pierre. “They were children. They were mothers. They fled Communism. And what did Governor DeSantis and Governor Abbot do to them? They used them as political pawns, treated them like chattels in a cruel, deliberate political stunt.’
Jean-Pierre pointed out that the migrants who landed on Martha’s Vineyard were promised job opportunities in Boston.
“These are the types of tactics that we see from smugglers in countries like Mexico and Guatemala,” she said. ‘And for what? A photo op? Because these governors care more about creating political theater than developing actual solutions to help people fleeing Communism.’
