WASHINGTON (Portal) The United States on Friday warned it could impose sanctions on individuals, countries and companies that supply Russia with munitions or support its militaryindustrial complex as Washington seeks to ease pressure on Moscow over the war in Ukraine to increase.
Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo, at an unprecedented meeting with officials from 32 countries and the United States to discuss sanctions on Russia, made clear that Washington stands ready to take action against those outside the US by avoiding US sanctions.
Officials at the meeting, which also included representatives from European Union countries, Canada and South Korea, discussed further planned measures against Russia’s militaryindustrial complex and the impact of various sanctions imposed by Washington and its partners over the Ukrainian invasion of Ukraine .
The Treasury Department also warned that Washington stands ready to impose sanctions on those supplying ammunition or other military supplies to Russia, as well as on private military contractors or paramilitary groups participating in or supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine.
In addition, the Treasury, Commerce and State Departments issued a warning outlining the measures being taken against Russia’s militaryindustrial complex and the risks faced by those who were materially exposed to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine supported.
According to the warning, by restricting Russian access to advanced goods, technology and services, Washington and its partners have hampered Russia’s ability to replace weapons, including more than 6,000 pieces of military equipment destroyed in the war.
