In Moldova, in the capital, the protests continue Chisinau. For the seventh Sunday in a row, demonstrators took to the streets against the pro-European president Maia Sandu. According to the Washington Post, which viewed and collected intelligence documents and interviews with Moldovan, Ukrainian and Western officials, a leader of an opposition party (ȘOR) in exile in Israel is behind the recent protests. Accused of stealing $1 billion from Moldova’s banking system, Ilan Schor he would organize the anti-government protests and receive Russia’s blessing. Their goal would be to overthrow the government of the former Soviet republic, strip Moldova of EU membership – which, along with Ukraine, gained EU candidate status in June – and thus steer the country towards Russia.
