London, 7th November (EFE) .- The UK remains committed to the £11.6 billion (€13.297 million) fund in international climate aid announced last year, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said at the COP27 climate summit on Monday.
Speaking to the media from Egypt, the conservative leader pointed out that “the benefits it can bring to countries around the world are already visible, for example as we help countries like Kenya in their transition to zero-grid”.
“But the truth is it offers exciting opportunities for the UK economy. It engages the private sector, which is right, but it also helps these countries transition to a cleaner future and creates jobs in the process,” noted the Tory politician.
Asked about the presence of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson at COP27, Sunak said “this demonstrates British leadership on this issue on a global scale”.
He also highlighted the former Conservative leader’s role “in building a greener future” and said he “deserves tremendous recognition and praise”.
Referring to other interesting issues, Sunak acknowledged that the problem of illegal migrants entering the UK via the English Channel is “a complex issue”, that there is no “simple solution” and “there will not be”. be solved by overnight”.
