Indications of Boris Becker’s early release are growing.
The British newspaper “Mirror” reported on Tuesday that the three-time Wimbledon champion should be deported next week. The “Sun” had already written in mid-November that the 55-year-old man would likely be released before Christmas and would have to leave immediately for his home country. Becker’s German lawyer could not initially be reached for comment.

According to British media reports, the former exceptional athlete is set to benefit from an accelerated procedure. Thus, any foreign prisoner who can be released from prison and deported up to twelve months before the first release date is eligible. The aim is to relieve pressure on overcrowded British prisons. Becker, who hails from Leimen in Baden-Württemberg, has lived in London for years but does not have British citizenship.
Sentenced to two and a half years in prison
The exceptional former athlete was sentenced to two and a half years in prison at the end of April for having concealed millionaire assets from his insolvency administrators. He has been in Huntercombe Prison, west of London, for several months.
