Avatar: The Way of Water Overtakes Jurassic World To Become 7th-Highest-grossing Movie In History At $1.7 Billion

Avatar: The Way of Water exceeds all expectations and proves to be an absolute blockbuster hit. Director James Cameron recently announced that the fourth and fifth Avatar films will go into production based on the profitability of the second sequel. The film continues its upward trend and has now surpassed Jurassic World as the seventh highest-grossing film in history at $1.7 billion worldwide.

Just a month after its release, The Way of Water has grossed $517 million in North America alone and $1.19 billion overseas. The film is now the fifth highest-grossing film at the international box office, just behind the original Avatar, Titanic, Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War. The second Avatar film is currently the highest-grossing film of 2022 and the second-biggest film during the pandemic era.

The Way of Water is on track to overtake Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is currently the sixth-grossing film of all time at $1.91 billion. Given the success, the second tranche has a chance to surpass the $2 billion mark globally. In history, only five films have surpassed the $2 billion mark – Avatar ($2.9 billion), Avengers: Endgame ($2.79 billion), Titanic (2.2 billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.069 billion). ) and Avengers: Infinity War ($2.04 billion).
