A beaver dam collapse causes damage in Rawdon

Last night a beaver dam would have collapsed at Rawdon in Lanaudière resulting in an impressive collapse of the Chemin du Lac-Morgan road

“We really didn’t expect that. Everything was normal on this street,” says Shaun Carroll, who lives about 500 meters from the accident site.

According to the mayor of the municipality, Raymond Rougeau, three private culverts were destroyed in quick succession by the excess water from the beaver dam.

“Then all the water flowed into the street and with the amount of water that came in and the pressure the path was washed away,” he explains.

It is still too early to determine the causes that would have led to the collapse of the beaver dam.

The municipality has set up temporary bypasses. Road rehabilitation work should begin earlier this week and be completed next Friday, the mayor said.
