A bus carrying Cuban migrants falls into the river in Honduras

In the early hours of this Sunday, four people died and at least 15 were injured in a bus accident in western Honduras.

The vehicle was carrying about 60 migrants from Cuba, Venezuela and Haiti on their journey to the United States.

According to the Honduran Fire Department, three of the deceased were originally from Venezuela, while the fourth victim was a Honduran citizen. According to initial reports from local media, authorities also reported a woman among the fatalities.

The accident occurred on the highway towards Agua Caliente, near the border with Guatemala. The bus fell into the river under circumstances that are still under investigation.

At least six injured people were admitted to the Western Hospital in critical condition and required urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, fire rescue teams continued their operations in search of possible victims who could be trapped in the water. So far, four lifeless bodies have been recovered from the river.

The bus was driven by the driver’s assistant, who unfortunately was also one of the fatalities. According to local media, the hut was completely destroyed by the incident.
