A Laval resident who used her home as a brothel and pocketed a commission for each customer pleaded guilty and now faces jail time.
“The victim stayed in the apartment for two months, she worked from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m [l’accusée] “Whoever found the clients made $40 to $60 each time,” the Crown’s Me Delphine Mauger said Monday at the Montreal courthouse.
Standing in the center of the courtroom, Roxanne Lacasse, 34, pleaded guilty in the summer of 2019 to being a pimp and living off the fruits of prostitution.
At the time, the defendant was associated with Wooldy Laguerre, a 31-year-old pimp who has since been sentenced to three years in prison. And it was through that relationship that Lacasse met the then 20-year-old victim.
The victim had already been sent to Lacasse in Laval in the midst of prostitution. And there she was forced to prostitute herself for hours, seven days a week.
Calculating multiple customers per day, it’s easy to deduce that Lacasse pocketed a few thousand dollars in two months. Laguerre then “picked up” the victim and sent him somewhere else, the court said.
“There was no psychological or physical violence,” said the defense’s Me Anthony El Haddad.
According to the summary of the facts, other people engaged in prostitution in Lacasse, but there were no police investigations into these women.
Lacasse, who is currently at large, will return to court in September for the hearing of the verdict. In the meantime, she will meet with experts who will draw up her portrait to assist Judge Martin Chalifour in imposing the appropriate sentence on her.
