Significant rain accumulations are expected in several regions of Quebec on Monday, potentially leading to flooding in certain locations.

Meteorologist Gilles Brien said in an interview with LCN that it was not normal for such rainfall of up to 100 millimeters and such mild temperatures to occur in December.
“Normally 40 millimeters fall in Quebec in December. We might have 50 to 100 millimeters there in a single day, he said. It's enormous. We expect 50 to 100 millimeters, which is practically the equivalent of a month of rain in 24 hours.”
“Temperatures should be around -2 or -3 this time of year,” he adds. It will be around 12 to 13 degrees [demain à certains endroits]. It’s abnormal.”
In certain areas, frozen ground could slow drainage, causing flooding.
“We anticipate the risk of local flooding,” he said. It will fall particularly in the mountainous regions from the Laurentians to the Laurentides Park. Perhaps 120 to 130 millimeters of rain could fall there, so the rivers are likely to be overloaded with water. There are some disruptions that we can anticipate with this.”
“There are also very strong winds in Beauce and in the lower river regions such as Gaspésie, where gusts of 90 to 100 kilometers per hour are possible on Monday afternoon. Christmas decorations must therefore be firmly anchored in the ground.”
Regions in the south of the province such as Outaouais and Abitibi-Témiscamingue could be spared from this storm, while less than 20 millimeters of rain is expected.
Heavy rain showers are expected throughout the day on Monday for the rest of the regions.
“It will fall heavily during the morning, with the worst expected to be Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with very heavy rain throughout the day.” It is a tropical depression coming to us from the Gulf of Mexico, therefore There is a lot of humidity.”
This meteorological event is consistent with forecasts from Environment and Climate Change Canada, which predicted a milder and rainier winter.
“This is the seasonal forecast that we predicted on December 1st for the winter, which should be mild with less snow but more rain,” explains Mr. Brien. It’s becoming a reality, we’ll have proof of it tomorrow.”
