The Diamonbacks’ presence in the World Series is a reminder of how badly the Toronto Blue Jays missed their goal last December when they sent Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Gabriel Moreno to Arizona to acquire the services of outfielder Daulton Varsho.
Gurriel Jr. and Moreno contributed to the Diamonbacks’ success, each scoring twice in Tuesday night’s 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the seventh and final game of the National Finals.

At just 23 years old, Moreno is also one of the most promising catchers in Major League Baseball. The Venezuelan has posted a remarkable .279 batting average since the start of the playoffs and regularly ranks third in the Diamondbacks’ offensive lineup.
Varsho is reliable defensively and is one of five Jays players nominated for a Gold Glove in 2023. Of course, even if he were to be crowned on November 5th, the Blue Jays would be in pretty bad shape after this transaction. Varsho has hit 20 home runs this season but has been limited to a .220 average.
There are definitely people in Toronto who want to see Gurriel Jr. and Moreno rest during the upcoming World Series against the Texas Rangers.
