A driver in her 20s narrowly escaped Friday afternoon when her car was hit by a tanker truck normally carrying milk.
The collision occurred just after 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 265 and Rang Saint-Pierre Est.
The driver, coming from Saint-Pierre Est, would have liked to take Route 265 but was hit by the heavy truck heading towards Villeroy.
After the impact, the two vehicles ended up in a ditch.
“Fortunately the cistern was empty because the scenario would be very different. And the car’s airbags saved the driver’s life,” said Martin Milot, chief of operations for the L’Érable regional fire brigade.
The fire brigade was dispatched to the scene of the rescue. “Five firefighters from the Kaserne 45 salvage team are on duty. The young woman was stuck. We had to remove the door to release it,” the operations manager explained, adding that the driver remained conscious and sane.
She escaped with minor injuries. She was taken to the hospital center.
Other firefighters from barracks 80-85 secured the site. In total, a dozen pioneers, as well as paramedics, police officers from the Sûreté du Québec and employees of the Ministère des Transports du Québec were deployed.
