The integrated classification of the food safety phase, known as CPIpublished an alarming report this Thursday 21st. The partner committee of United Nations revealed that the total population is more than 2 million inhabitants Gaza The famine is critical and the risk of starvation increases day by day.
According to the document, the proportion of families in Gaza experiencing high levels of acute food insecurity is the highest ever recorded in the world.
War and famine
The humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave has deteriorated rapidly since Israel launched a major military operation on October 7 in response to a brutal Hamas attack that indiscriminately killed 1,200 Israelis.
Incessant airstrikes and a ground offensive have devastated large parts of the Gaza Strip and violently displaced civilians. Trucks carrying humanitarian aid from Egypt were able to deliver some food, water and medicine, but the United Nations estimates supplies amount to just $100,000 10% of the requirement for the residents of the area.

The distribution of supplies was also hampered by the war as well as Israel's obligation to control supplies, communications failures and fuel shortages. Some Palestinians were desperate with hunger and even intercepted trucks carrying humanitarian aid. There were also reports of residents eating donkey meat and emaciated patients seeking medical attention.
What is the CPI?
The IPC, created by a partnership of United Nations agencies and NGOs, sets the global standard for determining the severity of a food crisis using a complex set of technical criteria.
- More than 90% of Gaza's population (around 2.08 million people) face high levels of acute food insecurity, meaning they are in IPC Phase 4.
- Another 15% (at least one in four families) are in a “catastrophic situation” (stage 5): extreme food shortages, hunger and depletion of survival skills;
- The entire population of the Gaza Strip (around 2.2 million people) is classified as a “crisis or worse” situation (Phase 3) until at least February 7th.
