Almost 12,000 homes plunged into darkness due to power outages –

Nearly 12,000 homes in Quebec were plunged into darkness overnight Monday into Tuesday as strong winds caused hundreds of power outages on the Hydro-Québec network.

The state-owned company noted in its latest report shortly after 3 a.m. that some 11,882 households were without power, most of them in eastern Quebec.

For example, 4,869 Hydro-Québec customers in Gaspésie – Îles-de-la-Madeleine were waiting for reconnection while the outages recorded in Laval and Mauricie were resolved.

According to the state-owned company's report, around 3,343 households are also without electricity in Bas-Saint-Laurent and 1,852 other households on the north coast were in the same situation.

In Estrie, Hydro-Québec recorded 569 of its customers remaining in the dark during the same period, while in Montreal around 485 households were in the same situation.

In the Chaudière-Appalaches, Capitale-Nationale and Outaouais regions, Hydro-Québec reported that hundreds of 272 customers were still without power overnight.

Hydro-Québec officials were still working Tuesday morning to resolve issues related to the outages, which still have not been resolved in the province, it said.
