If you're planning on traveling for spring break, here's what you need to know in advance.

An airline with routes to and from Indianapolis International Airport is raising the price of checking a bag, now costing more than other competing U.S. airlines.

American Airlines announced Tuesday that the cost of the first checked bag on most flights will rise to $40 for those who have not prepaid online. If you pay online, the price is $35, according to American Airlines' service fees page. Previously, each payment method only cost $30.

Flights within or to and from the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are affected by the price increase, with a second bag increasing from $40 to $45.

What about international flights?

Other routes are also affected by rising prices. For flights to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and Guyana, the first checked bag will cost $35 (down from $30) and the second checked bag will cost $45 (originally $40).
