The Holy Land Foundation launches the petition “I stand with Pope Francis for peace in Ukraine and every other part of the world”. From today on the www.change.org platform it is possible to join by registering on the platform www.change.org.
Following the call of Pope Francis in his recent book, An Encyclical for Peace in Ukraine, in which he urges all women and men of good will to act at all levels for an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and just and For Lasting Peace, the Holy Land Foundation wishes to take up the Holy Father’s appeal by launching a petition to mobilize public opinion in support of dialogue between the warring parties and for peace just before the first anniversary of the start of the war (February 24).
“The war in Ukraine – writes the Pope in his encyclical on peace in Ukraine – questioned each of us. Why, after the dramatic years of the pandemic, when we finally emerged from its most acute phase, not without great difficulty and many tragedies, has the horror of this senseless and blasphemous conflict arrived, as all wars do? Can we confidently speak of a just war? Can we speak of a holy war with confidence? We men of God who preach the gospel of the risen Christ have a duty to proclaim this truth of faith. God is a God of peace, love and hope. A God who wants us all to be brothers, as taught by His Son Jesus Christ. The horrors of war, any war, offend the most holy name of God. And they insult him even more when his name is misused to justify this unspeakable massacre.”
And again: «How many more tragedies will we have to experience before all involved in every war understand that this is only a way of death, deceiving only a few into believing they are the victors? So that it is clear: With war we are all defeated!».
Pope Francis’ cry must be heard throughout the world for a speedy peaceful resolution to this conflict that has already caused too much suffering, death and destruction. “For no reason in the world must we get used to all this and take this fragmented Third World War, which has developed dramatically before our eyes into a total Third World War, almost as a matter of course. Let’s pray for peace! Let’s work for peace!».
