Baby dies after parents left him in car for hours

An unfortunate event occurred in Pittsburgh, USA, where a baby died at just 3 months old after his parents left him in the car for “several hours”, according to Upper Saint Clair police.

Police went to the couple’s home around 5 p.m. after an 911 call and found the unconscious baby in the car, parked outside the garage and in the middle of a heat wave.

The maximum temperature in this area has been exceeded 33 degrees Celsius Last Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The little boy underwent resuscitation maneuvers performed by the agents but unfortunately they could not save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Police discovered that the infant had been left in his parents’ car for several hours and requested Homicide’s intervention,” the statement said.

It’s not the only case

Website KidsAnd Cars claimed that it is the fifth time a year that a baby has died in a vehicle due to high temperatures. On May 19, a 1-year-old boy died after being rescued from a daycare center in Memphis, Tennessee.

On May 3, an 8-month-old girl died after being left in a car for hours. The girl’s father has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with her death.

Authorities have warned parents that the temperature in a car with the windows slightly open can reach 50 degrees Celsius in minutes and a child’s body overheats up to five times faster than an adult’s.

According to the latest figures from KidsAndCars, an average of 37 children die each year in the United States from heat-related injuries in cars.
