FC Barcelona for women this Saturday announced the signing of Lucy Bronze, a 30-year-old Manchester City winger. Bronze, England international 81 times, has signed a contract with the Barça club until 2024. The Brit has long been considered one of the best footballers in the world. Not for nothing did she win the UEFA Best Player in Europe award in 2019 and a year later she was awarded The Best, which is given to the best female football player in the world.
After confirming the signing, already in the club’s sporting city, Bronze was delighted: “I am very happy to play for a club like FC Barcelona, one of the greatest teams in the world. I look forward to working with the team. After a few talks, you can’t say no to Barça,” he told the club’s media.
Barça had already strengthened their defenses in this transfer market when they announced the signing of Nuria Rábano this Friday, a 23-year-old left-back who previously played for Real Sociedad.
With the arrival of Bronze, the Barça team reinforces its physical bet on the future, one of the Catalans’ big musts in the Champions League final on May 21 against Olympique de Lyon (1-3 for the French).
Bronze is the Blaugrana’s second signing following the departure of Dutch striker Lieke Martens, who signed for Paris Saint Germain this week at the age of 29 and after scoring 72 goals with the Barça shirt.
