Beauport attack: A 42-year-old man arrested after a fight

A 40-year-old man allegedly involved in a fight was arrested in the Beauport sector of Quebec on Sunday night after seriously injuring another man in the upper body.

The incident happened just after 7 p.m. on rue Saint-Grégoire in the Chutes-Montmorency district. Citizens who witnessed a fight contacted the authorities.

However, when they arrived at the scene, police discovered a 42-year-old man lying on the ground with “prominent upper body bleeding.” He was transported to the hospital center where his life is not in danger.

“It is not excluded that a weapon was used during the altercation, but it remains to be clarified. The investigation is ongoing,” said David Poitras, spokesman for the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ).

After scouting the scene and speaking to witnesses at the scene, peace officers arrested another man, also 42, at a nearby apartment building.

He is accused of having committed bodily harm. Arrested at the police station, he was due to appear at the Quebec courthouse on Monday morning.

Mr Poitras stresses that the attack was not accidental as the two people knew each other, but we cannot say how at the moment.

The Forensic Identification Unit went to the crime scene to assess the crime scene and clarify the circumstances of what happened. Investigations into the motive for the attack are ongoing, the spokesman said.
