British authorities: Attack on ship in the Gulf of Aden

Yemeni Houthi rebels claim to have attacked the British oil tanker “Marlin Luanda” in the Gulf of Aden and started a fire. Houthi military spokesman Jahja Sarea said the rebels used a series of appropriate naval missiles and that the attack was direct.

Earlier, the British Navy agency UKMTO said yesterday that two missiles exploded in the water near an unidentified ship in the Gulf of Aden, southwest of the Yemeni port city of the same name. The crew was safe and there was no damage. The ship continues its course until the next destination port.

Coalition forces responded to the attack, the statement continued. Ships were warned to be cautious and report any suspicious activity.

The responsible regional command of the US military announced on X (Twitter) in the afternoon that the Houthis fired an anti-ship ballistic missile at a US Navy destroyer in the Gulf of Aden. The rocket was shot down. There was no damage or injuries.
