San Salvador/(EFE). -President Nayib Bukele's ruling party Nuevas Ideas (NI) achieved 54 out of 60 deputies in the Legislative Assembly, giving it a majority in this body and continuing to be the leading political force in the country, as officially announced this Monday evening the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE).
NI's congressional allies, the National Concertation Party (PNC) and the Christian Democrats (PDC), won two and one seats respectively.
The opposition Nationalist Republican Alliance (Arena, right) and the minority Vamos (center-right) reached two and one parliamentarians, said the presiding judge of the collegiate unit, Dora Martínez, on a national radio and television station.
The left-wing Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN), which currently has four MPs, failed to win any seats
The left-wing Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN), which currently has four deputies, has not won any seats and will therefore not be represented in this body for the first time in its history since the signing of the peace agreement (1992). but it is not disappearing as a political party.
The right-wing Grand Alliance for National Unity (GANA), with which President Nayib Bukele reached the presidency in 2019 and currently has 5 parliamentarians, and the right-center Nuestro Tiempo (NT), now with representation, received no deputies for the period 2024- 2027.
For her part, the president of the TSE stated that “every vote was counted in a transparent manner”.
On February 4, Salvadorans voted to elect 60 deputies instead of 84 after President Bukele proposed a reduction in the number of deputies in Congress and was approved by the legislature, which currently has a pro-government majority.
The controversial and unusual final audit of the parliamentary elections ended on Sunday and was carried out amid numerous complaints of irregularities, including the intervention of National Police officers, alleged threats of arrest against opposition party observers for recording irregularities and restrictions on the press.
Unlike the previous audit, a recount of individual votes was carried out here as errors in the data transmission and dissemination system were discovered on February 4, forcing the TSE to skip the preliminary audit.
The Organization of American States (OAS) electoral mission expressed concern on Saturday about the “delay and inconsistency” in the counting of presidential and legislative elections.

The mission also complained that Bukele's party adopted “a domineering and intimidating attitude” during the investigation and even one of its staff “obstructed the work” of the mission.
An absolute majority in this body of state will allow the Salvadoran president to continue his so-called “war on gangs,” his main ticket for the February 4 elections, from which he emerged victorious with an overwhelming result over his opponents.
In the 2021 legislative and local elections, Nuevas Ideas won 56 out of 84 deputies in Congress.
