Coach Wilfried Nancy’s team dealt the Texas club their fourth setback in a row. For their part, the Belle Province team extended their unbeaten streak to six and took the opportunity to finish second in the Eastern Association rankings.

It was a Lassi Lappalainen success that allowed CF Montreal to savor the win.

In the 69th minute, the Finn entered the penalty area from the left and then skilfully maneuvered the ball past a defender. As soon as he had the chance, the 23-year-old shot into the side netting with a nice flick and broke the tie.

It was Lappalainen’s second goal of the season and first since the March 5 clash against the Philadelphia Union.

Romell Quioto had a chance to move the ropes as soon as half-time returned with a penalty, his second of the game. However, he completely missed his shot.

Four goals in the first half

The fans in attendance at Houston were spoiled in the first half as both teams scored two goals each. The crowd favorite opened the opening goal in the 12th minute through Sebastian Ferreira.

The Montrealers responded three minutes later when Quioto capitalized on his first ‘penalty’ of the game. This time, the Honduran slotted the ball into the bottom left corner of Steve Clark’s goal.

The Impact then took the lead when midfielder Alistar Johnston expertly placed the precious object in the opposition net.

Daniel Steres, however, brought everyone back onto an even playing field by deflecting a cross past goalkeeper James Pantemis. The latter ended his match with two saves in four shots on goal.

Defender Rudy Camacho was also unable to finish the game after apparently injuring his shoulder just before the hour mark.

CF Montreal will be back in action next Saturday while the New England Revolution will be visiting the Stade Saputo. Belle Province Club has not lost on home soil since July 9.
