Alex Newhook has been out with an ankle injury since Nov. 30 and was back training with his teammates on Sunday at the CN Complex in Brossard.
With Newhook's ability to absorb contact, a return to Tuesday's game against the Washington Capitals seems very likely. A reinforcement that would arrive at a good time given the departure of Sean Monahan, who moved to the Winnipeg Jets on Friday.
Newook, who turned 23 on Jan. 28, has 13 points, including seven goals, in 23 games this season. He can play both in the center and on the wing.
Two Laval Rocket attackers, Brandon Gignac and Lucas Condotta, were also in the session. Condotta was recalled while Gignac signed a two-year deal with the Canadiens today. The Quebecer wore number 74.
