BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated that his country supports all efforts aimed at preventing the escalation of conflict and promoting the restoration of peace.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks on Friday while briefing the media on his recent trip to four African countries, namely Egypt, Tunisia, Togo and Ivory Coast.
The head of Chinese diplomacy said the Chinese side condemns all actions that harm civilians and opposes any violation of international law.
Addressing the situation in the Red Sea, Wang said China calls for an end to the harassment of civilian ships and urges concerned parties not to add fuel to the fire, work together to ensure the security of sea lanes in accordance with the law, and seriously respect sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries on the Red Sea coast, including Yemen.
Regarding the conflict in the Gaza Strip, Wang emphasized that the issue of Palestine has always been at the heart of the Middle East issue.
China strongly supports the Palestinian people's just cause to restore their legitimate national rights and their long-held desire to build an independent state, he said. End
