Without a single question being asked, Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal were already annoyed at the pre-UFC 272 press conference.
The former friends confronted the bitter rivals in the main event, and they came face to face for the first time on Thursday, using enough swear words that Quentin Tarantino could shoot him for his next film.
“You’re not going to do anything stupid, brother,” Masvidal shouted at Covington. “Stop holding on.”
The instability did not stop, no matter what question was asked during a press conference with UFC President Dana White, who did everything possible to prevent the train from derailing completely.
Covington’s garbage talks with his former teammate ranged from asking how a bill became law in the United States to accusing him of taking out a loan from the Pandemic Payments Program.
“You’re such a terrible bum,” Covington said. “It will be an easy job.”
Throughout the press conference, the light heavyweight fighters talked to each other constantly, which rarely involved one of them answering a question without the other interrupting.
With UFC security and local law enforcement on stage, Covington and Masvidal were able to stay seated throughout the press conference, although there were definitely many calls and shouts between them.
When the press conference finally ended, White returned the fighters to the stage for their first official viewing, but he had no intention of actually allowing them to get closer to each other.
Masvidal managed to throw a small kick while Covington usually stood and smiled before White said “this is good” and the fighters were pushed back to opposite sides of the stage.
Masvidal and Covington will face off once again at the official weigh-in on Friday, before finally clashing in the cage at the UFC 272 main event.
