Connor McDavid may have won five of the last seven Art Ross Trophies, but he's not thinking about the National Hockey League's scoring charts this season.
By his personal standards, the Edmonton Oilers captain, like his team, had a false start to the 2023-2024 season before recovering spectacularly. McDavid sits fifth in points and the Alberta club has won its last 16 games to move into third place in the Pacific Division.

Last year, number 97 collected 153 points, the most since 1995-1996. His haul is likely to be more modest this season as he has 67 points in 43 games. He could still exceed the 120-point mark for the third time in a row.
“This is not one of those years where everyone is going to be writing about these big numbers and stuff like that. But we came and did it. It's more about being part of something and I think it's good that no one is writing about Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl taking the lead,” the Ontarian told Sportsnet.
This season, the 27-year-old has only one goal in mind: the Stanley Cup. He wants to reach the final for the first time in his career and get his hands on the trophy that has so far eluded him.
“Is it great to produce offensively? Of course it is. But we want to be part of a team that will do damage later in the year,” McDavid said.
The Oilers well-deserved their break from the All-Star Game as they won't return to action until February 6th against the Vegas Golden Knights.
