Mr Grandmont made his first speech as an official candidate in Taschenreau on Saturday night. He was in the presence of QS Parliamentary Chair Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois and MP Catherine Dorion, who will retire next autumn.

“With him, the third link, there will be none. With him the tram [de Québec] will see the light of day,” said Mr. Nadeau-Dubois from the start.

Étienne Grandmont, director of the sustainable mobility organization Accès transports viables since 2012, will make public transport his main focus.

Unlike the Québec-Lévis tunnel project, he intends to redouble his efforts to advance Québec’s streetcars rapidly. “We will work twice as hard to ensure that it is carried out harmoniously as soon as possible and that we will make new phases in this tram in the years to come,” he explained.

Taschenreau’s nomination contest, which he won against candidate Madeleine Cloutier, was just a foretaste of the campaign ahead. After the call for elections on October 3rd, will it remain the largest solidary constituency group?

“We have every intention of sending Étienne Grandmont to the National Assembly. We need a public transport expert to expose the CAQ’s transport incompetence,” said Mr. Nadeau-Dubois.

In April, Catherine Dorion, who was elected for the first and only time in Taschenreau in 2018, announced that she would not run for a second term this fall.
