As syracuse.com reported, credit card fraudsters were recently discovered in 11 New York Walmart stores in Central and Upstate New York.
Most of the skimmers designed to steal credit card information were reportedly placed on July 2 and found on July 5, the report said.
Police said they were investigating whether the same three people could be behind these and seven other card skimmer cases, the report said.
The report said police are asking for the public’s help to identify three people for questioning in connection with the skimmers.
A spokesman referred syracuse.com to local law enforcement agencies “to protect the integrity of the investigation(s).”
Police authorities told syracuse.com that these are the marks in each store where the skimmers were found:
- Fulton/Granby: No. 7
- East Syracuse: No. 6
- Camillus: No. 5
- Auburn: #2
- Oswego: No. 1
- Cortland/Cortlandville: #2
- Central Square: No. 1
- Erwin: No. 5
- Norwich: unknown
The spokesman said customers concerned about being impacted should contact their card provider or the Walmart customer care team at 800-925-6278.
They also encourage customers to check their accounts and report any discrepancies to their bank. State police also urged the public to use credit cards instead of debit cards because credit is “easier to challenge.”
