A shocking new investigation into the Delphi murders has cast doubt on the suspect charged in the brutal double murder – claiming Libby German, 14, was “nearly decapitated” when she was killed along with her friend Abby Williams, 13 became.
In the six years since their murders in February 2017, few details about the girls' cause of death had been released until this week, when a new CrimeNation documentary claimed Libby was nearly decapitated “out of anger.”
The admission could be seen in texts from someone at the scene that were later leaked online. It also said: “Whoever did it was definitely after Libby” and that the 14-year-old “fought like hell.”
In October 2022, police made their first major breakthrough with the arrest of 50-year-old Richard Allen.
However, the new documentary instead pointed to a new killer, the man who owned the property where the girls were discovered, Ron Logan, shrugging off new claims from his ex-girlfriend.

Ron Logan, who owned the property where the teenage girls were found, is named as the real killer by his ex-girlfriend in the new documentary. He died of Covid-19 in January 2022

Logan, who died of Covid-19 in January 2022, was one of the first suspects investigated by investigators and he made several media appearances after the killings, which gained national attention.
After key evidence emerged – a photo of the killer and a recording of his voice that Libby recorded on her cell phone – Logan appeared on Inside Edition and claimed that he did not recognize the person or the voice of anyone he heard on his cell phone had seen property.
But his ex-girlfriend Connie Dillman has claimed that she has no doubt that Logan was in the clips and that she has insisted to authorities that her ex is the killer.
“That’s your voice,” she said of Logan. “I've heard the voice from 'Down the Hill' thousands of times. 'It's Ron Logan.'
Dillman said she began her six-year relationship with Logan after meeting him at a bar in Delphi, Indiana, and quickly became captivated by their love of horses and the outdoors.
However, she said their relationship soon went downhill when he started controlling her everyday life and treating her like a “sex tool.”
“When I didn’t want to have sex, he forced it on me,” she said. “I was helpless.”
Once when she tried to leave, she claimed he hit her over the head with a wrench and gave her seven stitches.
Shortly after their relationship ended, the murders of the two teenage girls shocked the Delphi community and made national headlines – leading Dillman to believe that her former lover was the killer when she saw him on television.
The final video, taken on Libby's phone, showed a man wearing a blue Carhartt jacket and jeans approaching the two teens

After the murders, shocking text messages were leaked claiming Libby (left) was the “target” of the murder
After the murders drew national attention, law enforcement came under criticism for not disclosing details of the crime. One reason they cited was because they wanted to maintain control of the investigation and not reveal information that only the killer would have known.
Amid the frustration of obtaining information, lurid text messages from someone at the crime scene leaked online, which the documentary claimed were shared by Abby's uncle, David Erskin.
The text read: “Me and my other sister's boyfriend found the girls on Tuesday.” The coroner's report said it was all over at 3:30 p.m. No rape. Abby was dressed. Libby was naked.
“Libby's upper half was covered in leaves and sticks, almost as if they were trying to cover her.”
“The only DNA would come from Libby's fingernails.” She fought like hell. Whoever did it was definitely targeting Libby and knew what they were doing to Abby. It was personal with Libby.'
An expert in the case added that “there was talk that Libby was almost beheaded, apparently in anger.”
Following his arrest, Allen's investigation and arrest came under greater scrutiny, particularly due to the evidence presented in Allen's affidavit.
As of November 2022, the affidavit cited only one piece of evidence linking Allen to the murders, an unspent bullet casing from the crime scene.
The .40 cartridge was found within two feet of the girls, and analysis of the cartridge determined it was consistent with Allen's firearm.
It is unclear how the cartridge entered the gun, never fired, and then ended up between the two bodies.
Two weeks later, exclusively revealed that shortly after Allen's arrest, one of his neighbors saw police digging in his yard to exhume his family's dead cat.
It also turned out that the cat's hair matched samples found on one of the victims.
The bombshell report also revealed that investigators were investigating whether the girls were victims of a botched kidnapping plot by a local pedophile ring.
Sources close to the investigation alleged that Allen worked with at least two other men and was involved in a child sex ring. Carroll County Prosecutor Nicholas McLeland openly stated that he believes “Allen is not the only player involved.”
