Montreal man Denis Leblanc was found guilty of murdering his two sisters at the Montreal courthouse on Thursday.
The 63-year-old was found guilty of seven charges against him, including two counts of first-degree murder, but also attempted murder of a neighbor and attempted murder of two police officers.
The judge sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The events took place on October 3, 2020 in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district. Denis Leblanc, described by neighbors as agitated and distraught, initially opened fire on his two sisters who were in the alley. He then went upstairs to the building where he lived to try to kill a neighbor. She was able to escape.
When the police convoy arrived at the scene, the defendant started shooting at the police officers.
The day before or the day before, Denis Leblanc had announced his intentions to act. He had told a friend that he had hunting guns and that they were loaded. He also claimed that he wanted to attack police officers, particularly police officers.
