British actress Pamela Salem, who starred in the James Bond film “Never Say Never Again” and the television series “Doctor Who,” died on Wednesday, according to Big Finish Productions. She was 80.

Born in India in 1944, she played Bond's secretary, Miss Moneypenny, in Sean Connery's 1983 film Never Say Never Again, considered an unofficial addition to the Bond canon as it was not produced by Eon Productions.

Salem made guest appearances in Doctor Who as Professor Rachel Jensen and first appeared in the 1988 episodes “Remembrance of the Daleks” with Sylvester McCoy's Seventh Doctor.

She reprized the character in Counter-Measures, an audio spin-off series from Big Finish. The series' more recent story, The Dalek Gambit, was published in 2020.

She also guest-starred in Big Finish's The Fourth Doctor Adventures (again with Tom Baker) and then reprized the role of Toos in The Robots.

Other film roles included the 1978 crime film “The Great Train Robbery” and “The West Wing,” in which she played the fictional British Prime Minister Maureen Graty. “ER” and “Blake's 7” were also notable roles.

Salem moved to Los Angeles in the 1990s and then lived in Miami.

David Richardson, who produced all of Salem's work at Big Finish, said: “Whenever there was a Big Finish shot for her, she would fly in from Miami under her own power, without much fuss or fanfare, and show up armed with the gun Studio The warmest smiles, the warmest hugs and often gifts.

“She was a very gentle person – always interested in everyone, from her co-stars to the production team to the guest actors and visitors.”

Karen Gledhill, an actress who worked alongside Salem in Counter-Measures, said: “Pamela was the kindest, most generous actress I have ever worked with.

“In the 80s she took me under her wing on Remembrance Of The Daleks (my first real TV job) and guided me through a wonderful but somewhat daunting experience. We became friends and whenever we met we were always very happy to see each other.”
