Drunk driving: A driver accused of fatally running over a teenager a year ago is said to have re-offended eight months after the tragedy

A Chambly woman accused of fatally mowing down a teenager and injuring another while unable to drive last year is believed to have gotten back behind the wheel drunk barely eight months after the tragedy.

“We should have taken away her driver’s license, she could have killed someone again,” protested Sylvain Bouchard, the father of Samy, 15, who was seriously injured in a violent collision a year ago.

On October 5, 2022, he and his good friend Jonathan Jérôme were riding a moped when they were hit head-on by a vehicle. The impact occurred in a work area in Carignan, Montérégie.

Samy survived, but Jonathan did not.

After a year-long investigation, police officers from the Richelieu-Saint-Laurent intercommunal police department arrested the driver.

Two arrests in one week

Cheryl Ann Boucher faces multiple charges, including causing death and causing injury while driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs. She is also accused of dangerous driving.

She has been in custody since her arrest on October 4th.

But Cheryl Ann Boucher’s problems aren’t over yet, as eight months after the tragedy she would have re-offended. On October 12, she was charged again with drunk driving.

This time the event dates back to last June, eight months after the fatal collision.

She was arrested by a Sûreté du Québec patrol officer in Saint-Lin-Laurentides. We learned that she was allegedly driving her vehicle with her lights off.

As it was suspected that she was drunk, she was taken to the station where tests were carried out.

“Public Danger”

The case was then presented to a Crown prosecutor, who has just filed two impaired driving-related charges.

“I hope she stays in custody. She poses a danger to the public,” added Samy Bouchard’s father.

He added that his 16-year-old son still has to live with many physical limitations since the collision.

The defendant returns to court next month over the Carignan tragedy.

In addition, Cheryl Ann Boucher was previously convicted of drunk driving in 2015. She was fined $1,500.

She is also awaiting trial on drug trafficking charges.
