Eagles News: The 49ers writer likes the signing of Jaquiski Tartt for Philly

Let’s move on to the links to the Philadelphia Eagles…

Eagles sign Jaquiski Tartt to one-year deal – Niners Nation
Tartt has been one of my favorite players in recent seasons. The former second-round pick in 2015 has struggled to stay healthy but there was no doubt he made a difference on the field. Simply put, the 49ers didn’t give up big games or anything when Tartt played. There’s so much more to playing defensive back than interceptions that Tartt will never live up to his claim. He makes the plays that don’t show up in the box score and does much of the dirty work that has allowed the Niners’ defense to be so successful over the past few seasons. I hope everyone knows that Tartt going to Philly means he stays healthy, likely to generate revenue and become a Pro Bowler. That’s how these things usually work – either way, I wish Tartt the best and healthy rest of his career.

The Eagles signed a security! – BGN
When previously asked about the Eagles’ safety position, Roseman said the team is higher in that room than outsiders. But obviously not to the point where he was willing to stop seeking help. While it’s by no means a home run, it makes sense for the Eagles to add more competition to an unsettled position. Tartt brings experience with 64 starts in 80 games for the 49ers, having been the No. 46 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. With just 18 passes defended, four interceptions and two forced fumbles, he wasn’t exactly a playmaker. Durability was also an issue considering he never played a full season and was only available for 50 of San Fran’s last 81 regular season games.

Eagles Player Rating: Le’Raven Clark Edition – PhillyVoice
Clark has some guard/tackle versatility, but I like him better as a guard as I don’t want him playing against someone with borderline speed. Given this major lack in his game, I wouldn’t feel comfortable trading Dillard at a discount on the premise that Clark can do just as well in a backup tackle role. I think he has shown enough positives that he will likely take the team out of training camp as a backup lineman.

Top 10 new veteran QB-WR combos heading into the 2022 NFL season – NFL.com
Brown’s presence will make life easier for Hurts, who enters a crucial season as he tries to prove he’s the long-term solution under center. Hurts showed a double threat ability in 2021, his first season as a full-time starter, but he missed too many throws and posted an 87.2 passer rating. Brown’s ability to win in tight spots and generate yards from catches adds a dimension to offense that was missing last season. According to Pro Football Focus, Brown has averaged 6.0 yards after catches since 2019 — second among WRs, behind only Deebo Samuel (at least 150 receptions). Getting those extra yards will make the whole operation smoother and make hurts more dangerous if he decides to use his legs. Much like Tua, Hurts need a strong season. Brown and Smith’s pairing speeds up the passing game to make Philly one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL if everyone stays sane.

Jerry Jones dodged again when asked if he could add Jimmy Johnson to the Ring of Honor – Blogging The Boys
It’s been a year. And even then, we were still two decades overdue. Inevitably, in the near future (perhaps at the opening ceremonies in Oxnard), Jerry will seize another opportunity to rekindle that flame and will once again announce that Jimmy Johnson will be inducted into his team’s ring of honor. Enough with the empty words. It’s time for a real answer here.

Ron Rivera fined $100,000 and Washington Commanders lose two OTA drills in 2023 due to excessive contact – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders will lose two OTA exercises in 2023 due to excessive contact during exercise exercises. Head coach Ron Rivera is also fined $100,000. The Dallas Cowboys lost just one practice session in 2023 and their head coach Mike McCarthy was also fined $100,000 yesterday.

PFF: WR Kadarius Toney is one of 10 sophomores under pressure in 2022 – Big Blue View
Is Kadarius Toney under pressure to keep his job this season? Yes, he probably is. Before we get to the Giants’ overall roster build, it’s worth remembering that ownership swept the front office and coaching staff clean. There are very few players in this squad that the new regime has invested in. That could mean everyone on the list is fighting for their jobs. Monson points out that the Giants picked a very similar player in this year’s draft. Wan’Dale Robinson had a very similar college career to Toney. Both started out as “gadget” players who weren’t real receivers. They both moved in offensive formation and were introduced to sweeps, bubble screens, pitches, and various “trick play” concepts. Both played much more of a “receiver” role in their senior seasons before going to Reese’s Senior Bowl. Both players are undersized (Robinson more so than Toney) and build their game around stop-start speed.

Jaguars don’t do traditional mandatory mini-camp and don’t give vets time – Big Cat Country
The Jacksonville Jaguars will not be business as usual as they turn their eyes to the upcoming five-week break between off-season activities and training camp in July. Instead of a typical three-day mandatory mini-camp for the team and its veterans, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson announced Thursday that most of the team’s veterans would have those three days off, essentially getting ready for the offseason. Pederson indicated that he made the decision within the past week or so. “I still have the mandatory minicamp, mandatory three days, but I only do the rookies, select veterans and our injured players,” Pederson said in an opening statement Thursday.

Adam Sandler’s Hustle is one of the greatest basketball movies of all time – SB Nation
These are the types of films that Sandler will hopefully continue to make. It’s a simpler watch than 2019’s Uncut Gems, but shows the comedian is at his best when he’s taking things back. It’s clear that everyone involved in this project was interested in telling a good basketball story, and that’s what makes it so successful compared to something like Home Team, which tried so hard to be a comedy that it lost any semblance of humor lost. Let’s face it: Sandler’s line of Netflix movies has been terrible for the most part, but Hustle is totally worth taking some time to watch. It’s fun, it’s heartfelt, the basketball scenes are great, and it’s a breath of fresh air.
