Kevin Morby released a new album, This Is A Photograph, his sequel to Sundowner in 2020. The inspiration for this came while Morby was looking at a box of family photos shortly after his father feared for his health. His lead single is also his title track and is a reflection of some of the photos Morby watched: “Your Father in the Front Meadow, Shirtless / Ready to Take the World, Under the Sun of West Texas” and “Your Mother’s Gender” , in the cool dirt of Kentucky, Laughter in the Garden (haha!), where it all began. ”

This Is A Photograph was produced by Sam Cohen, who also produced “Singing Saw” from 2016 and “Oh My God” from 2019. Sam Cohen and I wanted to throw everything on the wall with this one. “This is the battle that every family faces, the one to chase the clock, to live our lives and hold on to each other for as long as possible,” Morby said in a statement. “This is the dream that comes with a young family in America and where those dreams end.

Anna Netrebko, the Russian soprano superstar, will no longer appear at the Metropolitan Opera this or next season after failing to comply with the company’s request to distance itself from Russian President Vladimir Putin while he is waging war against Ukraine.

Ms Netrebko’s commitments, announced by Matt on Thursday, came to an end after the opera troupe, citing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, said it would no longer hire artists who support Mr Putin. The first season of the series ended with the title character, who received a new life, which felt more than a little manipulative, but it doesn’t matter. Yet the narrative unfolds at a very leisurely pace in the first three episodes and involves Picard and his unlikely crew traveling back in time to the 21st century to thwart an existential threat. Although there is a long history of this, including past stays in Trek mythology, the confusion with Terminator-style timelines is one of those science fiction wrinkles that risks exploding.

Picard, however, remains perhaps the best-selling title under the banner of Star Trek, which Paramount, in its desire to provide mandatory content for its streaming service, essentially caught on. The list, piloted by producer Alex Kurzman (to most of Akiva Goldsman), now includes Star Trek Discovery, Short Trails, and the animated series Prodigy and Lower Decks. This is very bold for an AARP-compliant franchise, even before Paramount recently announced plans to try to revive theatrical films with Chris Pine and the company that manages the bridge.

Picard’s latest mission – a return to the past in an attempt to build a brighter future – is thus inadvertently representative of the location of the Trek franchise. And while seeing Stewart at the helm is a reward in some ways, the producers are relying too much on this goodwill with a season that three hours later feels like he’s barely out of a dry dock.
