Elle King admitted she was drunk during her disastrous performance at Dolly Parton's 78th birthday party in Nashville on Friday night.
“Hello, my name is Elle King. “I'm totally exhausted,” the 34-year-old “Ex's & Oh's” singer told the audience at the Grand Ole Opry after he downplayed the lyrics to Parton's 2001 song “Marry Me,” according to a video shared on social media had.
“I don’t know the lyrics to this thing in this damn city. Don't tell Dolly 'cause it's her birthday,” she sang at one point in place of the actual lyrics.
King, the daughter of comedian Rob Schneider, used several profanities on stage and told the crowd, “I'm not even going to lie, you guys bought tickets to this shit? You're not getting your money back.”
She then performed one of her own songs and warned the audience that she might also mess up her lyrics.

“I can barely play another person’s song; Let me see if I can play one of mine,” she said.
TikTok user @Auctioneergirl posted a video of King's drunken antics and harshly criticized the Grammy nominee in the caption.
“I think Elle King just ended here [sic] Career. I can’t imagine disrespecting Dolly on Dolly’s birthday at the @Grand Ole Opry,” she wrote on Sunday. “I hope Elle gets the help she needs because this doesn’t pass the mood check.”

Several other critics flooded the comments section to roast King.
“Their whole band looked so embarrassed,” one person pointed out.
“This is disappointing. I've seen Elle live before and she put on a great show. I wonder if she was on something??” a second person asked.

“I thought there was a rule about people not being allowed to swear on the Opry stage? I could be wrong but I always thought it was a big no-no,” chimed in a third.
“Can you imagine if the people the same age as Dolly tried to enjoy this my parents would have left,” a fourth person said.
“It was tragic to witness!” Another added, claiming the Opry had “pulled the curtain on King” because of the “great disrespect towards Dolly.”

“She should never be allowed to play there again,” argued another.
Many other viewers noticed that the “Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)” singer used a fake Southern accent even though he was from Los Angeles.
“She doesn't have an accent… I'm confused…” one person wrote.

“She's from LA and NY and has never lived in the south – where does the accent come from,” another agreed.
“I like their extreme accent changes,” another wrote sarcastically.
However, others defended King and claimed she did nothing wrong.
“It looks like she’s having fun, and everyone in the crowd sounds like they’re having fun. It seems like haters are just looking for a reason,” one defender wrote.

“You’re all talking about giving people grace all the time. She’s going through something and I feel sorry for her,” a second fan commented.
“I'm sorry, but what's the problem? I’m confused she doesn’t sound bad,” a third person wrote.
However, the Grand Ole Opry clearly objected to King's profanity-filled show, as it apologized to concertgoers for its profanity.

One disgruntled attendee dragged out the performance on Twitter, writing: “I wish [Lauren Alaina] would have been there because Elle King ruined the evening with her terrible, drunken and profane performance. Dolly Parton would have been mortified. It was a shame we all had to experience this for the first time at the Opry.”
The legendary venue replied to the tweet“We deeply regret and apologize for the language used during the second Opry performance last night.”
King has admitted to struggling with alcohol in the past, but also noted that she likes to drink before going on stage.

“I really like drinking and singing. “I don't want to get as drunk as I used to,” she told the San Diego Union-Tribune in 2022. “It's easier for me to say, 'Yeah, I want to drink and party and.' [then] go on stage.' I get nervous before I go on stage, [so] I have a few drinks [first].”
She continued: “Drinking makes me feel less nervous about hitting the notes while singing. If I don’t do them, it doesn’t burn as much.”
King's rep did not immediately respond to Page Six's request for comment.
